BMT Aerospace consists of three separate business units: Caratron Industries, Inc., in Fraser, Michigan USA, BMT Aerospace Romania in Iasi Romania and Eurair NV (European Aerospace Company NV) in Oostkamp Belgium.

CARATRON

In 2004 the Caratron division implemented essential restructuring plans company wide The changes encompassed the implementation of true lean manufacturing, a myriad of internal process improvements, method engineering streamlining, including a focused approach to overhead and labor cost reductions and improving manufacturing efficiencies plant wide. This aggressive undertaking enabled Caratron to greatly increase its manufacturing capacity, improve and maintain on time deliveries, reduce its cost of quality and reemerge as, a profitable business entity for the BMT Group, and as a leader in the aerospace gear industry.

During 2005 Caratron is again significantly increasing its total sales revenues and continues to add value to the overall BMT Group. Caratron has been investing heavily in cutting edge technology and special process capabilities in the USA and more so at its lower cost eastern European plant in Romania. The € 4 Million (Euro) in investments is providing Caratron with a technical edge over its peers ensuring its competitive position both near and long term in the aerospace gear market. Furthermore, the company has been able to have all of its special processes capabilities i.e.: Heat Treat (Carburize & Nitride) and Copper Plating both NADCAP and Customer approved enabling it to manufacture parts complete in Romania for all of its customers internationally.

In late 2004 and into 2005 Caratron has won several major awards with existing and new customers that will assist the division in its long term growth plans. Caratron is fast becoming an industry leader in complex gearing for the turbine engine and actuation market segments within the aerospace industry worldwide.

EURAIR

Eurair located in Oostkamp Belgium is a world-leading manufacturer of leading edge slat actuation racks and pinions. As a risk-sharing partner and single source supplier Eurair participates since more than 20 years in various commercial and military aircraft programs. More recently new challenges where found in space programs.
Next to the design activities Eurair can offer, all of the manufacturing, heat treatments, NDT inspections, shotpeening, surface treatments and painting are done in house.
An investment program is on going in order to further reduce the labour content in manufacturing, heat- and surface treatments. Also Eurair is shareholder of the Belairbus consortium.
